Christophe Galtier placed under protection after racism allegations

Paris Saint-Germain manager Christophe Galtier has been placed under protection after he received numerous death threats in the aftermath of allegations of racism against him.

Galtier has been accused of both racism and Islamophobia following the leak of an email allegedly from former Nice director Julien Fournier, in which he is reported to have voiced concerns about working with Galtier at Nice because of his attitude towards black and Muslim players.

Importantly, Galtier has strongly denied all the allegations against him and his lawyer, Olivier Martin, has confirmed an intention to pursue legal action against the ‘insulting and defamatory remarks’.

However, following the emergence of this leaked email, RMC Sport note that Galtier received a wave of abuse and death threats, leading to emergency protection being given to the current PSG boss.

This is not the first time that Galtier has been accused of racism, with previous allegations dismissed months ago.

Reports in France have claimed that PSG have opened an investigation into the claims against Galtier, although The Telegraph state that the Ligue 1 side believe their manager’s side of the story and are prepared to move on.

The search is on to identify the source of the leak, with former Nice chief Fournier publicly denying responsibility.

“I am in Brazil right now and far away from this controversy, to which I am associated at my expense,” he told Nice-Matin.” I am in no way at the source of the circulation of this internal information, which went back a year from the time I left the club.

“I would never kick anyone while they are down, despite my disagreements with Christophe Galtier, and most of all I have too much respect for OGC Nice – a club whose colours I proudly defended for ten years – as well as the people who are there, who right now are preparing for one of the biggest games in their history in Europe.

“The timing of these revelations outrages me as much as their content does.”
