Chinese gambler found dead inside Osu casino

A Chinese man has been found dead Saturday morning at the Casino Galaxy formerly known as Casino Gold in Osu.

Information gathered by theghanareport.com indicates that the man lost a lot of money after participating in various games at the casino, which is located behind the Shell fuel station along the Oxford Street.

The 27-year-old man is alleged to have borrowed money from officials of the casino, which is owned by Chinese. After placing all the money back in the games with the hope of winning a greater amount to pay back, he lost again.

He was later found dead in a room at the casino which shares a compound with a hotel.

Police have confirmed the death of the man but the details from preliminary investigations are scanty and the cops did not confirm or deny the involvement of the deceased in gambling.

Police account

According to the Accra Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Afia Tenge, a Chinese national of the casino reported that at about 5:30 am on Saturday, October 3, she woke up and found out that a friend had hanged himself in the bathroom.

Police proceeded to the scene together with the crime scene team and found the deceased in a sitting position in the bathroom.

Further information gathered by the police indicated that the complainant raised alarm attracting others, who rushed to rescue the deceased but they realised it was too late.

The scene was processed and the body conveyed and deposited at the Police Hospital morgue for autopsy.

The police said the family of the deceased has been contacted as the investigation continues.

Chinese deaths at casinos

This would not be the first time a Chinese has lost his life at a casino in Ghana.

In October 2008, two Chinese were shot dead by a colleague after a disagreement at a gambling table at China-Town, Wassa-Akropong in the Wassa Amenfi East District of the Western Region.

The deceased were identified as Wing Wenkang, 35 and Lu Silim, 54.

They were shot by an angry Chinese colleague who went to pick a gun after the melee and returned to the scene to spray bullets at his colleagues.
