The Ga West Municipal Assembly has ordered the temporary closure of the Amasaman China Mall following the collapse of part of the facility on Sunday, December 28, 2025.
The Assembly said the incident caused damage to goods in the affected section of the mall and left two people injured.
The injured persons are currently receiving medical treatment.
In an interview, the Chief Executive of the Ga West Municipal Assembly, John Desmond Sowah Nai, said preliminary assessments by the Municipal Security Coordinating Council (MUSEC) indicate that the collapse was due to structural integrity issues.
He explained that MUSEC has directed the temporary suspension of all operations at the mall as a safety precaution.
“MUSEC has taken a decision to temporarily halt operations. We have asked China Mall to stop operations until further notice,” he said.
Mr. Sowah Nai assured the public that the mall will only be allowed to reopen after all findings and recommendations by the Ga West MUSEC have been fully addressed to ensure the safety of occupants and shoppers.
