A Chief State Attorney at the Office of the Attorney General, Samuel Nerquaye-Tetteh, has been disbarred by the General Legal Council (GLC) for professional misconduct.

The GLC, which serves as the regulatory body for the legal profession, took this action after finding Nerquaye-Tetteh guilty of misconduct under Rule 2(2) of the Legal Profession (Professional Conduct and Etiquette) Rules, 1969 (L.I. 613).

The disciplinary action stemmed from Nerquaye-Tetteh’s involvement in a case involving businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome in 2011.

During the litigation, Nerquaye-Tetteh allegedly facilitated the direct transfer of GH¢400,000 from Woyome to the bank account of his wife.

The GLC noted that Nerquaye-Tetteh failed to provide a reasonable explanation for this transfer.

In its notice dated January 31, 2024, the GLC expressed concern that Nerquaye-Tetteh’s actions had tarnished the reputation of the legal profession.

Consequently, the council disbarred him, effectively prohibiting him from practicing law in Ghana.

The notice, signed by Judicial Secretary Justice Cynthia Pamela Koranteng, stated that Nerquaye-Tetteh must cease presenting himself as a lawyer and refrain from offering legal services to the public.

Below is the notice to that effect.
