A police intelligence-led operation on Wednesday, 24 August 2022, led to the arrest of the suspects in the North-East Region.

Others are Bawah Yakubu Ibn Mohammed, Bawah Sake, Imoro Bomah, Imoro Karim, Adams Nasona and Abdulai Yussif.

According to a press statement issued by the police, the suspects will be arraigned before a court today,  25 August 2022 to face justice.

The police commended the North East Regional Commander, DCOP Moses Ali Kpeachin, and his team for restoring calm in the area and arresting the 12 persons.

Meanwhile, it beseeched the people to settle their differences with dialogue rather than violence.

“We continue to urge everyone to choose dialogue rather than violence in resolving their differences,” the statement concluded.

The 25 July communal clashes resulted from a dispute over a parcel of farmland between the Gbalo and Sagon communities in the Chereponi district.

Fresh violence is said to have started when one faction was spotted on the land that has been the point of contention for years.

In all, 16 houses were torched while several properties and livestock were destroyed in the clashes.

There were no reported casualties but some residents who were rendered homeless left the affected communities for the main Chereponi township for safety.
