Charles Forson defeats Ebi Bright after final collation in Tema Central

Charles Forson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been declared the Member of Parliament-elect for the Tema Central Constituency following the collation of two outstanding polling station results.

The declaration was made by Francis Twum, Deputy Returning Officer for Tema Central, on Sunday, January 5, 2025.

This followed a court order mandating the inclusion of the results from the two polling stations to finalise the constituency’s parliamentary election results.

“Following the court’s directive, we have now completed the collation of all 147 polling stations, including the special voting station, bringing the total to 148 polling stations in Tema Central,” Mr. Twum stated during the announcement.

According to the final results, Charles Forson of the NPP secured 18,870 votes, narrowly defeating Ebi Bright of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who garnered 18,815 votes.

Frederick Ani Adjei, an independent candidate, received 209 votes.

The total valid votes cast were 37,894, with 144 ballots rejected, bringing the total number of votes cast to 38,038.

“In view of the above results and the powers vested in me, I declare Mr. Charles Forson as the Member of Parliament-elect for Tema Central,” Mr. Twum concluded.

This declaration brings an end to the legal and electoral disputes surrounding the Tema Central parliamentary seat, which had been a subject of contention due to the exclusion of the two polling stations in the initial results.
