Chaos at Ablekuma West Collation Centre as supporters clash with police
Chaos erupted at the Ablekuma West collation centre in the Greater Accra region shortly after voting ended in the general elections today, December 7.
The incident reportedly occurred when a group of individuals attempted to force their way into the centre to observe the collation, leading to a standoff with security and Electoral Commission (EC) officials.
Police officers were seen bracing against the gate to keep the crowd out, while agitated residents threw missiles over the barricade.
Amid the chaos, some of the ballot boxes had to be thrown over the gate, with two more boxes seemingly being transported similarly.
The unrest disrupted the typically orderly process of concluding elections in the constituency.
Authorities are working to de-escalate the tensions and restore calm as the collation of results continues.
