The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has given the government until 31 August 2022 to heed their demands for the full condition of service and compensation payments for all-year-round academic work, or they will advise themselves.

CETAG expressed displeasure over how the government handled matters concerning the welfare of its members in the 46 public colleges of education across the country.

In a press release dated Monday, 22 August 2022, the association noted that the government had delayed giving members the full condition of service despite negotiations with leaders in August 2021.

The association stated that the government has failed to compensate tutors and academic staff who have worked all year round without a compulsory vacation.

“Failure of the government to act on CETAG’s demand for a compensatory package for academic staff in the colleges of education who have been compelled to work all year round without taking a compulsory vacation or off-season contrary to provisions of the Harmonized Condition of Service for the Colleges of Education, Section 10.1.6 page 74-75”.

On this note, the association made its demands clear.

“In conclusion, CETAG wishes to serve clear notice that if by 31 August 2022, the government has not given us our conditions of service, which include our demand for unconditional extension of the parallel rate of generic and research allowances paid to analogous tertiary institutions to the academic staff of the colleges of education and grant compensation package to tutors for the all-year-round academic work, all members of CETAG across the 46 public colleges of education shall strongly advise ourselves,” CETAG warned.

It will be recalled that CETAG declared a strike on Thursday, 2 January 2022, over the non-implementation of the 2017-2020 conditions of service.

The strike was subsequently called off after validating January 2022 salaries, the implementation, and the payment of the 2017-2020 condition of service (CoS).
