Cedi slump pushes fuel prices up from Feb. 16

Fuel prices go up from today, February 16, 2026, in line with projections by the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC).

This marks the second increase in recent weeks, driven largely by the continued depreciation of the Ghanaian cedi and rising global prices of crude oil and finished petroleum products.

The cedi remains under pressure due to strong demand for foreign exchange by businesses and multinational firms.

Data from the Bank of Ghana show the local currency has depreciated by about 4 per cent against the US dollar since the beginning of the year.

Petrol prices rise by up to 1.97 per cent to about GH¢11.97 per litre, while diesel increases by 2.73 per cent to around GH¢13.09 per litre.

LPG also goes up by 3.26 per cent to approximately GH¢13.93 per kilogram.

Despite the hikes, an oversupply of refined petroleum products and intense competition among oil marketing companies are expected to keep increases marginal at the pumps.

COMAC has meanwhile urged all oil marketing and LPG marketing companies to comply strictly with the price floors set by the National Petroleum Authority to ensure stability and fairness in the downstream petroleum sector.
