Source The Ghana Report

The Ghanaian cedi depreciated 5.3% against the US dollar in the first quarter of 2025, trading at GH¢15.53 per dollar on the interbank market in March, according to the Bank of Ghana (BoG).

In January and February, the cedi lost 5.3% and 3.9%, respectively, against the dollar.

Similarly, the cedi depreciated by 9.20% to the euro on the interbank market in quarter one of 2025, going for GH¢16.75.

For the pound, the cedi lost 8.2% in value. It consequently sold at GH¢20.03 to one pound on the interbank market.

However, the cedi gained 0.31% against the dollar last week in the retail market, improving its year-to-date loss to 2.36%.

Next week, an IMF team will arrive in Ghana for the fourth review of the $3 billion Economic Credit Facility programme.

Analysts believe a successful review could unlock additional funds, supporting the BoG’s intervention efforts and helping to stabilize the cedi.
