The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) placed the husband of Cecilia Dapaah, Daniel Osei Kuffour, under arrest in relation to ongoing investigations into alleged corruption and corruption-related offences.
This was revealed in court when the OSP moved its application for confirmation of an order to freeze the bank accounts of the former Sanitation Minister.
The OSP is also seeking to seize some $590,000 and GHC 2,730,000 found at her residence in Abelemkpe.
During the proceedings, the presiding judge questioned why Cecilia Dapaah was the only one under investigation, given that huge amounts of money were found in her marital residence where she lived with her husband.
The representative of the OSP, Dr Isidore Tuffour, told the court that Cecilia Dapaah’s husband was also arrested.
However, Victoria Barth, the lawyer of the former sanitation minister, insisted that her client was unaware of her husband’s supposed arrest.
Meanwhile, Dr Tufour argued that the order to freeze the bank accounts was in line with the Office of the Special Prosecutor ACT (959) to prevent the concealment of a property believed to be tainted with corruption.
He also revealed to the court that Cecilia Dapaah could not explain how she came by the $590,000 and GHC 2,730,000, and the ownership of the allegedly stolen monies was in dispute.
For this, he contended that the OSP suspects the monies found to be tainted with corruption.
On the other hand, Cecilia Dapaah’s lawyer argued that the application contravened the procedure outlined in the Office of the Special Prosecutor ACT.
Meanwhile, the case has been adjourned to August 31, 2023.
