Cause the arrest of lawyers who attempt to bribe you – GBA PRO to Judges

The Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA), Saviour Kudze has urged judges to report to the police lawyers who attempt to bribe them to rule in favour of their clients.

According to him, this will contribute to efforts to restore public confidence in the judiciary in Ghana.

Mr. Kudze said this while reacting to concerns from Rev. Dr. Kwabena Opuni Frimpong about the legal profession’s deteriorating integrity on Monday.

The immediate past General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, earlier said Ghanaians were gradually losing faith in the justice system and turning to unconventional methods of resolving issues due to the conduct of some judges and lawyers.

Reacting to these claims, the PRO for the GBA said since the legal system is a human institution, there will be some who will fall below standard.

He, however, insisted that if judges and lawyers maintain good principles at all times, it will help in exposing the bad nuts who are denting the image of the legal profession.

“Why can’t people let our personal principles work for us? Society will never work if the personal principles of individuals who make up the society do not work,” he said.

Speaking on bribes, he said that the bigger responsibility lies on the judges in the effort to eradicate this canker.

“A lot more depends on the judges because they are the recipients of the bribes. So when a lawyer gives you money as a bribe, let the police arrest him or her. That is the way the system will work,” he said.
