Case of shot journalist adjourned for the fourth time
For the fourth time, the Accra Circuit Court has adjourned the case in which a journalist was shot during December 7 elections at the Ablekuma Collation Centre in Accra.
The case has been pushed to February 15, 2021 due to the absence of the prosecution handling the case. Lawyers for the accused and the accused went into the judge’s chamber to decide on the next date.
The suspect, Collins Quarcoo, also known as Kola, was arraigned for allegedly shooting Pius Asiedu Kwanin, a journalist with the Newswatch Ghana online portal.
The journalist was shot in the leg at the Ablekuma Central Collation Centre on December 8, last year.
On the three other occasions that the court was adjourned, it was due to the absence of the substantive judge, Emmanuel Essandoh, who is still indisposed.
Lawyer for the journalist, Julius Opoku Agyei said they may have to petition the Chief Justice to move the case to another court.
“The substantive judge before whom the matter in circuit court 4 is still indisposed so the case was placed before the judge in circuit court 9, who has also adjourned the matter to February 15, 2021.
“My understanding is that the matter has not been formally transferred from the Circuit Court 4 so when the Circuit Court 4 judge resumes, the docket would go back for the continuation of the matter.
“We will see whether we should petition for the transfer of the case of wait for the CC 4 judge to sit on the case,” Mr Agyei told the media.
Collins Quarcoo has pleaded not guilty to all six counts of causing unlawful harm when he first appeared in court on December 17, last year.
