Captain Jordan Ayew hoping to win trophy with Black Stars
Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has expressed his desire to win a trophy with the senior national team.
The last time the Black Stars won a major trophy was in 1982, and since then, they have struggled to secure another victory, despite reaching the finals of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 1992, 2010, and 2015.
After suffering back-to-back eliminations in the group stage of the AFCON in Cameroon and Ivory Coast, the Black Stars also failed to secure a place in the 2025 AFCON tournament, which will be hosted in Morocco later this year.
Despite these disappointments and criticisms, Ayew led the team to achieve back-to-back wins against Chad and Madagascar during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Matchdays 5 and 6.
In an interview, the Leicester City striker emphasized his commitment to working hard and remaining patient, hopeful that his perseverance will ultimately be rewarded with silverware.
“I’ve been waiting for a national team trophy for many years. I have to keep on working and pushing, and if it comes, it comes,” he said.
The wins during the March international break have propelled the Black Stars to the top of Group I with 15 points.
