Cancelled BECE results: Affected students to be notified from Monday – WAEC

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that students whose results were cancelled during this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will receive notifications through their headmasters starting Monday, August 25, 2025.

WAEC has officially released the provisional results for the 2025 BECE in Ghana.

However, it has come to light that there were some irregularities during both the examination and script marking, leading to the cancellation of subject results for 718 candidates and the complete cancellation of results for 177 candidates.

The results of 93 candidates have been withheld.

John Kapi, the Public Relations Officer of WAEC, expressed disappointment over these recurring irregularities, despite ongoing efforts to engage stakeholders and raise awareness.

He highlighted that invigilators failed to ensure that candidates were free of foreign materials and did not resort to any form of malpractice during the examination.

“It is expected that these irregularities will be minimised. Those affected will be officially notified from Monday. Their schools in the various regions and districts will be notified for onwards action. Some of these infractions included being in possession of phones during the exams.

“This shouldn’t have happened if parents ensured their wards left their phones at home or if invigilators did their jobs well. They were not properly searched. Counsellors in schools need to do a better job,’’ he said.
