The Ghana Police Service has restored order in Ejura following a violent mob attack on the Ejura Police Station in the early hours of Saturday, January 11, 2025.

The unrest began on the night of Friday, January 10, 2025, around 10:00 pm, when police arrested a suspect on allegations of theft and detained him for further investigations.

At approximately 2:20 am on Saturday, the suspect complained of feeling unwell and was immediately transported to the Ejura Government Hospital for medical care. Sadly, he passed away while undergoing treatment.

As officials prepared to transfer the deceased’s body to the morgue for preservation and an autopsy, enraged members of the Ejura community stormed the police station in protest, setting parts of the facility on fire.

A group from the mob also stormed the hospital, forcibly retrieving the deceased suspect’s body.

In a brief statement, the police reported that, with the support of local opinion leaders, they successfully de-escalated tensions and restored calm.

Their swift intervention ensured that no casualties were recorded during the chaos.

The military later joined the police to reinforce security and maintain order in the area.

The Ghana National Fire Service was also dispatched to extinguish the fire at the police station caused by the attack.

The police have launched an investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible for the violence.

They assured the public of their commitment to upholding peace and security in the community.
