Calm restored in Sampa after violent clash – Police
The Bono Regional Police Command has assured that calm has been restored in Sampa, a border town in the Jaman North District, after violent clashes between two rival factions left residents in fear on Sunday, October 5.
The confrontation, involving the Sammordua and Samgba Gyafla groups, erupted at the town’s main market and quickly escalated into gunfire exchanges.
Several shops were also set ablaze, heightening panic among traders and locals.
In a statement, the Police said they rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call.
Officers accompanied a Ghana National Fire Service tender and an ambulance transporting a pregnant woman to the hospital.
But on arrival, the team came under heavy fire from both factions.
Several officers were wounded in the crossfire, while a Police service vehicle, GP 686, veered off the road and crashed into a ditch during the chaos.
The injured officers were rushed to the Sampa Government Hospital, where seven were treated and discharged.
One officer, however, suffered a serious head injury and has since been referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for advanced care.
Police say investigations are ongoing, but emphasised that order has now been restored to the troubled community.
In response to the unrest, the Police have intensified patrols in Sampa and the surrounding areas to maintain order and prevent further disturbances.
The Bono Regional Police Command assured the public that investigations are ongoing and efforts are being made to apprehend all individuals involved in the violence.
Residents are being urged to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement officers as the situation continues to be monitored closely.
Meanwhile, a police officer was confirmed dead following the incident.
