The National Labour Commission (NLC) has directed the College of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) to end its strike.
NLC further directed the group to appear before the commission for a hearing.
CETAG declared a strike on August 1, 2023, over the government’s failure to implement “negotiated” conditions of service for its members.
The commission emphasised that CETAG needed to end its strike because engagements were taking place.
This comes after leadership failed to appear before the NLC on Wednesday, August 02, 2023.
The NLC claims that CETAG’s leadership informed the commission in writing that it had no issues with it (the NLC) and would not appear before it on the day of the NLC’s hearing.
In January 2023, CETAG embarked on an indefinite strike action after the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) protracted negotiations for new conditions of service for more than a year.
The strike was, however, called off following interventions by the National Labour Commission.
A compulsory arbitral order birthed new conditions of service for CETAG agreed upon by the government.
Members of the association, therefore, decided to withdraw their services from all 46 colleges of education.
