Caleb Amankwah calls for better salaries to keep quality players in GPL

Former Hearts of Oak defender Caleb Amankwah is calling on Ghanaian clubs to prioritise the welfare of players emphasising well-paid salaries as a means to keep quality players in the local leagues and make it competitive.

The centre-back recently joined Ethiopian side Commercial Bank FC after departing Hearts of Oak and claims players are well paid over there compared to Ghana.

According to him, the best way to maintain quality players is to improve salary levels of players which he believes will go a long way to win fans to the stadium on matchdays.

“If there is money in Ghana, we will stay and play in the Ghana Premier League,” Amankwah said as quoted by Asempa FM, as monitored by footballghana.com.

“If you have a key player and you allow him to leave, what benefit will you get? Which player will the supporter come to the stadium to watch?

“They should give the players the money to stay and play in the Ghana Premier League.”

Amankwah’s departure from the Ghana Premier League is only an example of several players who have left to ply their trade with clubs in other African countries like Congo, Rwanda, Tanzania, and South Africa among others
