CAFWCL: Hasaacas Ladies progress to Semi-finals after an unbeaten run
Ghana’s representatives at the maiden edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League, Hasaacas Ladies, finished top of Group A after a 2-2 draw against Wadi Delga on Thursday.
Basigi’s side went into the game having secured a semi-final spot after winning their first two games of the tournament.
The Ghana champions were eager to keep their unbeaten run and also maintain their top spot, while Degla needed to win to stand a chance of picking the second spot from the group.
Degla started the game strongly and opened the scoring courtesy Jasmine Zachwieja before Hasaacas responded with a goal by Faustina Nyame who nodded the ball home from a brilliant free-kick.
The Egyptian club went ahead for the second time through a free-kick from Noha Elsolh to end the first half with a 2-1 scoreline.
But a few minutes into the second half, Hasaacas Ladies drew level yet again through Veronica Appiah to remain unbeaten in the competition and end Degla’s hopes to qualify for the semifinal.
Not only did Hasaacas Ladies top Group A, but also advance as the group with most goals after recording 8 goals in the group phase.
Equatorial Guinea’s Malabo Kings also had a 1-1 draw with AS Mande.
The 1-1 draw meant Malabo Kings picked the second slot ahead of Degla on the head-to-head rule as they both finished the group campaign on four points.
