CAF schedules Elective Congress for March 12 in Cairo

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has set Wednesday, 12 March 2025, for its 14th Extraordinary General Assembly in Cairo, Egypt.

Incumbent President Dr Patrice Motsepe will contest the presidency unopposed for a second term, continuing his leadership of the continent’s football governing body.

Ghana Football Association President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku is also running unopposed for a CAF Executive Committee member position on the ticket of the West African Football Union Zone B (WAFU B).

The elective Congress, which begins at 10:00 AM Cairo time, will feature the election of the CAF President, members of the Executive Committee, and African representatives to the FIFA Council for the 2025–2029 cycle.

Dr Motsepe, who took office in 2021, will aim to build on his first-term achievements, while Okraku is joining CAF’s highest decision-making body for the first time.

The agenda includes a welcome address by Dr Motsepe, speeches from key CAF partners and stakeholders, and verification of the Assembly’s compliance with statutory requirements. Members will also appoint scrutineers and officials to verify the official minutes before proceeding to the elections.

Key candidates for the Executive Committee elections include Wallace John Karia of Tanzania (CECAFA), Mustapha Ishola Raji of Liberia (WAFU A), and Elvis Raja Chetty of Seychelles (COSAFA).

Additionally, representatives like Fouzi Lekjaa of Morocco, Augustine Senghor of Senegal, Amaju Pinnick of Nigeria, and Isha Johansen of Sierra Leone will vie for positions on the FIFA Council.

Niger’s Djibrilla Hima Hamidou, as reported by JoySports, will also be contesting for a seat on the FIFA Council on the ticket of WAFU B.

About 12 people are vying for five slots.

The Congress will conclude with a closing address by Dr Motsepe, marking a pivotal moment for African football governance as the newly elected officials set their sights on advancing the sport across the continent.
