CAF President Patrice Motsepe expressed frustration over national teams playing outside their countries due to subpar facilities.

This frustration comes on the heels of Ghana being banned from hosting home matches at Baba Yara Stadium, their only approved venue, because of the pitch’s poor condition.

Motsepe expressed his disappointment during a CAF meeting in Kenya, which Ghana FA President Kurt Okraku attended.

At a press briefing in Nairobi, Motsepe said, “Nothing frustrates me more than a national team or club side having to play home matches outside.”

He emphasised the importance of playing in front of home fans, stating, “You can’t grow football if the national teams or club sides aren’t playing in front of their home fans.”

To address this issue, Motsepe underscored CAF’s efforts to ensure each country has at least one stadium fit to host category C games.

Ghana, meanwhile, will face Sudan in a crucial AFCON qualifying doubleheader in October, potentially playing their “home” match in Togo or Ivory Coast.
