CAF CL : Ghanaian referee to officiate US Gendarmerie vrs Al Ahly
One of Ghana’s best-ranked referees, Daniel Nii Laryea, has been appointed by the Confederation of African Football(CAF) to officiate the Champions League First Round 1st leg game between the US Gendarmerie of Niger and Egyptian giant Al Ahly SC.
The Nigerien champions will host the defending champions on 15 October 2021 at the Stade Général Seyni Kountché in Niamey, before the second leg in Cairo in a week.
The CAF Referees Committee has notified the two clubs of the appointment of the Ghanaian to handle the game as exclusively revealed by El-Ahly.com.
It will be Al Ahly’s first match in this season’s competition after securing automatic qualification from the first round of matches, while US Gendarmerie Nationale are coming into the game after advancing from the Preliminary Round with a win over Burundian side Le Messager FC de Ngozi.
Al Ahly are record holders of the competition, having won it ten times and are eyeing a 3rd consecutive triumph this season and will need to overcome the Nigerien champions, who, on the other hand, are looking forward to causing an upset.
It is not the first for Ghanain referee Nii Laryea as he has been in the centre of a number of games on the Africa continent.
