C/R: CID probes police bribery case at Assin Fosu

The Central Regional Police Command is calling on the general public to volunteer credible information in the matter where a Police Officer was seen in a viral video allegedly taking bribe from a civilian at Assin Fosu in the Central Region.

The video was later posted on several social media platforms, the Regional Police Command said.

In the video Sergeant Augustine Owusu Ansah with service number 45533G  was seen taking money from civilians after meeting them at a fuel station at Assin Fosu in a bid to help them to perpetuate their criminal acts.

He was also seen boasting of freeing criminals who were arrested by his colleagues during operations after he received cash from them.

He also indicated in the video that he has ways of helping criminals operate without being tormented by the Police.

In a statement signed by Irene Oppong, the Central Regional Police PRO, it indicated that the conduct of the officer amount to corruption and has been referred to the Regional CID to investigate and report back to the Regional Police Command for necessary action.

“The conduct of the officer in the video amounts to corruption so we will allow the law to take its course but for now we have referred the case to the Regional CID to look into the matter and report back to the Regional command,” DSP Irene Oppong said in a separate interview with Citi News.

“Painstaking investigations would be conducted to make sure all those involved are brought to book,” she added.

The statement also indicated that the Police Officer in the centre of the controversy has been detained to assist in the investigation.

“The officer is currently in the grips of the Central Regional Police Command assisting in an investigation.”
