C/R: 62-year-old woman killed at church premises; suspect lynched

The community of Twifo Denyase Camp, located in the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District of the Central Region, is in shock following the violent death of a 62-year-old woman on Tuesday morning.

The victim, Baby Abienor, was reportedly attacked alongside her daughter, Gladys, who suffered critical injuries and is currently undergoing treatment.

This tragic event took place on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, around 8:00 a.m., when a co-tenant, a 30-year-old man named Hormeku Agbemor, allegedly initiated an unprovoked cutlass assault on the two women at their home, situated near a wooden structure owned by the Apostolic Church, Ghana.

Witnesses reported that the suspect unexpectedly turned violent in the morning, inflicting multiple cutlass wounds on the victims. Baby Abienor succumbed to her severe injuries at the scene.

Gladys, who sustained serious injuries, was initially taken to a nearby Community-based Health Planning and Services facility for emergency treatment but was later transferred to St Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Fosu due to the critical nature of her condition.

Chief Superintendent Edmund Agyemang Badu, the Central North Regional Crime Officer, said that upon receiving reports of the incident, the Twifo Praso District Police Command promptly arrived at the scene to initiate an investigation.

They discovered the lifeless body of Baby Abienor lying face down in a pool of blood.

According to him, the deceased had significant, recent wounds on her neck and left arm, which are believed to have been caused by a cutlass.

Approximately 15 metres from the scene, Chief Superintendent Agyemang Badu reported that officers found the lifeless body of the suspect, Hormeku Agbemor, with his hands and legs bound with rope and blood stains on his face.

He is suspected of having been lynched by enraged residents following the attack.

Preliminary investigations, he stated, suggested that on the morning of the incident, the deceased woman, her daughter, and the suspect were present in the house when the suspect reportedly began to display abnormal behaviour and verbally assaulted them.

Sensing danger, Baby Abienor allegedly hurried to inform an elder responsible for the church about the situation.

The elder arrived shortly thereafter, only to discover her lying dead, with the suspect nearby holding a cutlass and begging for forgiveness after purportedly confessing to the murder.

Chief Superintendent Agyemang Badu mentioned that the church elder notified the assembly member, other residents, and the police, but by the time officers reached the scene, the suspect had already been lynched.

He indicated that the bodies of the deceased had been transported to the Twifo Atti-Morkwa Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy, while investigations into the incident continue.
