A 40-year-old man tragically lost his life after he drowned in a well at Enyan Abaasa in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District of the Central Region.
According to residents, Yaw Abakah, a famous well-digger from Agona Nsabaa in the Agona East District, had built a reputation for his expertise, securing jobs across the Central Region.
He had travelled to Enyan Abaasa with his workers to desilt a well when he met his untimely death.
It is reported that Abakah entered the well while his workers waited outside for instructions to commence work.
His workers later became worried after several minutes of silence.
Abakah did not also respond after they called his name several times.
This prompted them to report the case to the Gomoa Fire Service Command, and a team rushed to the scene.
On arrival, they were able to retrieve a lifeless body, which was covered in mud.
Traditional rites were performed, including the pouring of libation by local authorities and the body taken away for proper burial.
Eyewitnesses reported that Nana Asamoah, AKA “Yesu Papa,” had visited the river with three friends to catch fish, but during their expedition, he allegedly boasted that he could swim across the river’s deepest point, despite warnings from his friends.
Ignoring their advice, Asamoah jumped into the river but failed to resurface.
All attempts by his friends to search for him proved futile.
They therefore reported the incident to the elders of Twifo Praso, who formed a search party, and after a thorough search, Asamoah’s body was finally recovered from the river following a libation and incarnations performed by Okyeame D C Kwakye of Twifo Tuffoe.
