The burial of a young man who died under controversial circumstances at West Hills Mall has been scheduled for Saturday, April 15, this year.

The final funeral rites according to the family of Shadrack Arloo will take place at the Mpataba Community Centre in the Jomoro District of the Western region.

A wake will be held on April 14.

The 33-year-old man met his untimely death at the West Hills Mall in Accra on January 30, 2023.

The deceased had gone to the mall to buy some items he was expected to carry along with him to his sister in Germany.

Perpetual Didier, sister of the deceased, who is also a known gospel musician alleged her brother was beaten and tased to death during a scuffle with the police and private security at the mall.

A statement from the police has however debunked the said claims.

According to the police, the deceased resisted arrest and further swallowed a wrapped polythene bag that was in his back pocket, a claim the deceased family insists is false.

A pathology examination established the cause of death “as Asphyxiation and Obstruction of the airway by a foreign body”.

Eight zipped bags containing dry leaves suspected to be narcotic drugs tied in a piece of black polythene was retrieved from the throat of the deceased.

Boafo Osei Kwame, Shop Manager of Max Buy Ghana Limited, a dealer of electrical appliances within the West Hills Mall, is currently the only suspect before the court.
