Burglars break into COVID-19 isolation centre
Burglars have broken into an isolation centre in the Western Region and have made away with laptops, a flat screen television, radio set and other hospital equipment.
The burglars are believed to have used the backdoor to access the isolation centre.
The Upper West Regional Health promotion officer, John Mekper, confirmed the break-in to Citinews.
“We realise the thieves broke in through the back door and made away with the items. We can’t tell how many they were for now but investigations are still ongoing,” he said.
With the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus in the region, it is unclear if the thieves were clothed in safety wears before breaking into the isolation centre believed to be housing coronavirus patients.
Western Region confirmed its first case on April 12, 2020. It was the ninth region to make it to the COVID-19 regional count but is currently, the third region with the most cases.
As of June 15, the region has 976 cases out of the 11, 964 cases. Tarkwa, Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis, Effia-Kwesimintsim municipality are among the hot zone areas in the region.
