A devastating fire swept through the Agbogbloshie area in the Greater Accra Region on Sunday, November 24, 2024, destroying several wooden structures and their contents.
The blaze began at approximately 9:38 pm, prompting a swift response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
Two fire pumps were dispatched from the Accra City and Circle Fire Stations, with the first arriving on the scene just 10 minutes later, at 9:48 pm. Despite the rapid response, the fire had already engulfed several makeshift wooden structures and spread rapidly in all directions.
Firefighters faced significant challenges in accessing the fire’s source, but the tactical team persevered, bringing the blaze under control by 12:54 a.m. and fully extinguishing it by 1:38 a.m. on Monday.
The firefighters successfully salvaged several adjoining structures. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were recorded, according to the GNFS.
The fire reportedly started around 8 am on Monday, November 18, 2024, while the victim, a 17-year-old boy, was asleep.
The blaze also spread through nine rooms in the house, reducing several items to ashes.
According to the Asokwa Municipal Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), access to the building posed significant challenges for the rescue team.
However, he said the team was able to control the fire to present spread spreading to nearby houses.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased was transported to the mortuary by officers of the Ghana Police.
