Braves of Customs top Accra Basketball League Women’s and Men’s Divisions
Braves of Customs have emerged winners of the 2022 Accra Basketball League (ABL) Men’s Division I and Women’s Division.
The most successful team in the history of Ghana’s longest-running basketball league made it back to the top of the podium after missing out in recent years.
Braves beat Reformers of Prisons 45-43 in Game 3 of the Women’s Division to win the league title, ending Ghana Police Service’s run as division champions over the past two seasons.
In the Men’s Division I, Braves topped defending champions Reformers of Prisons with a 2-0 win in the best-of-three game series.
In Game One, Braves recorded a 76-61 win but in Game Two a controversial series of events forced the contest to end abruptly with 7:02 minutes remaining. Braves led 48-42 at the time the game was called off.
The remaining minutes of the game were agreed to be played out but Reformers failed to present the requisite number of players, leading officials to declare Braves as winners after the standard 15 minutes waiting time expired.
Speaking to the media, Braves head coach, Richard Borsah laid out the team’s ambition to represent Ghana at the Basketball Africa League (BAL) and hopes the team gets the needed financial support to realize such ambition.
In the Men’s Division II, Spintex Knights won the league title and gained promotion to Division I with the University of Ghana.
