Boyfriend jailed 3yrs for sharing girlfriend’s nude videos

A 24-year-old man is set for life in jail after nude videos of his girlfriend went viral.

Francis Aggrey, a student of Assin Fosu College of Education, was found guilty of two criminal charges – conspiracy and extortion.

He had already pleaded guilty to both charges and was convicted on his own plea at the Accra Circuit Court presided over by Emmanuel Marvin Essandoh.

The accused person was sentenced to three years with hard labour by the court on the charge of extortion.

Presenting the facts of the case, Detective Frederick Sarpong, told the court that Aggrey cited jealousy as reasons for extorting GHc 3,000 from his girlfriend.

The 24-year-old had suspected his girlfriend, a police officer, of cheating.

According to the prosecution, he hatched a ‘grand’ plan with the help of a friend, Christian Donkor, to extort money from his girlfriend.

On May 15, 2020, the accused created a social media account on Telegram with the name ‘Nana N’ and began chatting with the complainant.

“In the course of the chatting, the accused posted the complainant’s nude pictures and videos to her and demanded GHc 3,000, else he would circulate the pictures and videos on social media.

“The accused then forwarded the nude pictures and videos to the complainant to press her for the money demanded.

“The accomplice, on receipt of the nude pictures and videos, forwarded same to the complainant to hasten with the payment of the money as demanded.

The complainant then reported to her boss who also disguised himself and began chatting with the accused persons.”

He mentioned that “during the chat with the disguised boss, the accomplice gave the mobile money number 0595063915 to him to pay GHc 1,500 by Friday, May 15, 2020 else he will circulate the nude videos of the complainant.”

“On the same day, the complainant’s boss made payment of GHc 1,500 to the said mobile money account. The complainant’s boss, upon interrogation, suspected that complainant’s boyfriend to be behind the deal and caused the complainant to confront him.

“On May 18, complainant confronted the boyfriend and he admitted and cited jealousy as his reason for doing that.”

The prosecutor told the court that the accused was arrested on May 19 and handed over to the Bureau of National Investigation and the National Security.

“During interrogation the accused mentioned the accomplice’s name, having admitted to conspiring with him to extort money from the complainant.”

The prosecutor said efforts were being made to arrest the accomplice who is on the run.

The accused person’s sentencing on the conspiracy charge was deferred, upon a prayer from prosecution to the court to enable Aggrey assist them to arrest Christian Donkor, his accomplice.
