The Ghana police service has appealed to the general public to help them identify victims of the Boxing Day accident.

Seven persons including, a three-month-old baby, died on the morning of Boxing Day, December 26 in a  horrific accident on the Konongo-Odumase-Kumasi road.

The fatal accident involved two VVIP and OA commercial buses with registration numbers GT 6082-18 and GT 4913-14 respectively.

Several travelers sustained various degrees of injuries.

The injured were transferred to hospitals for medical attention.

But 24-hours after the gory accident, families had not moved in to identify their relatives.

Police are, however, appealing to the public to assist them to identify the victims.

According to MTTD Commander for the area, DSP Stephen Yeboah, only the driver of the VVIP bus has so far been identified.

“The driver died on the spot and he’s the only person who has been identified. Five people died on the spot and two died at the hospital.

“So I’m using this opportunity to reach out to all Ghanaians whose relatives have told them that they’re travelling along this road to contact us or the Konongo Divisional MTTD to find out  if any relative has died here or has been admitted at the hospital” he said.

He says a total of 37 persons are on hospital admission with five others sent to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital due to the nature of their injuries.

Joy News reported that the police has had a tough time locating relatives of the victims.

He explained that this was as a result of the long distances the buses were travelling from.
