The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Bank of Ghana has cut the policy rate by 300 basis points from 28% to 25% in a bold move to support economic growth amid declining inflation.
Announcing the decision at a press briefing in Accra on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, Governor of the Bank of Ghana and MPC Chairman, Dr. Johnson Asiama, said the majority of the 7-member committee voted in favour of the rate cut.
“The MPC, by majority decision, voted to reduce the policy rate to 25.0%. If the current disinflation trend continues, further rate cuts may be considered,” Dr. Asiama stated.
He emphasised that the Committee remains firmly committed to its price stability mandate while also creating the right conditions for inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
