North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has stated categorically that the Minority will ensure the prosecution of the BoG Governor Ernest Addison and his deputies.

Mr Ablakwa, who has joined scores of Ghanaians at the Obra Spot for the #OccupyBoG demonstration, said today’s protest is just the first line of action by the Minority.

“When he resigns, it sends a clear message that when you are given the opportunity to hold public office and you mismanage, you totally violate laws. You destroy livelihoods.

“You will suffer the consequences because his resignation is only the first of our demands. After that, we will make sure he is prosecuted,” he said.

The highly anticipated protest which has been postponed on several occasions is against the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Ernest Addison and his deputies.

Per an earlier letter, the minority said the primary focus of the protest is the central bank’s alleged printing of over 80 billion for the Akufo-Addo government.

They highlighted that this action has contributed to a hyperinflation rate of 54.1% in December 2022, leading to severe economic challenges for Ghanaians.

Furthermore, the caucus indicated that the central bank’s actions have resulted in approximately 850,000 Ghanaians being pushed into abject poverty.

According to the minority, these actions led to significant losses for the institution, including a loss of GH¢60.8 billion and negative equity of GH¢5.1 billion in 2022.

As of now, protestors who are predominantly clad in black and red attire have converged at the Obra spot for the demonstration.

They can be heard chanting their popular revolution song, “Revo Revo, revolution has a long way to go but has come to stay. Cadres may go Cadres may come but the revolution has come to stay’.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has assured proactive measures have been taken to ensure the ongoing demonstration goes smoothly.
