The Ghana Police Service has asked the Minority in Parliament to change their routes and destination for the planned demonstration against the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr Ernest Addison.
They gave the proposed route for the protest as follows: from the frontage of Parliament House, through Osu cemetery traffic light, Ministry of Finance, High Court Complex, Kinbu-Makola-Rawlings Park-Opera Square-Bank of Ghana.
However, the police say after a careful assessment, they discovered that the “routes may endanger public order and public safety”.
“We, therefore, requested the organisers to relocate the routes and destination of picketing in the interest of public order, public safety and running of essential services,” a statement from the police said.
The police further recommended that they commence the protest from the frontage of Parliament House through Osu Cemetery Traffic Light and end at the Independence Square.
The minority said they are protesting the central bank’s alleged illegal printing of over GH¢80 billion for the Akufo-Addo government, which caused a hyperinflation rate of 54.1 per cent.
According to the caucus, this has led to severe economic challenges for Ghanaians.
