Boakye Agyarko eyes presidency after Akufo-Addo feud
Following the bizarre condition under which former Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko, was relieved of his duties, he says he will not accept any other appointment from the Akufo-Addo administration.
My Agyarko, who was a former campaign manager for President Akufo-Addo has subsequently announced his presidential ambitions for the upcoming NPP primaries.
“I am pursuing my own presidential ambitions for which a lot of people kicked against right from the beginning. I will not abandon it to go and do any other thing. I am focused on what I have to do for myself and for my nation,” he declared.
The Former Energy Minister was dismissed in 2018 over a power purchase agreement between the government of Ghana and the Africa Middle East Resources Investment.
Boakye Agarko who has been tight-lipped since his dismissal said he was not appreciated.
Narrating how he was relieved of his post, Boakye Agyarko said, “I was called by the Chief of Staff and she said that the President said he cannot work with me again. I said that is fine and I moved.”
Asked if he will accept an appointment to serve in President Akufo-Addo’s government, Mr. Agyarko replied, “Sometimes when your service is not appreciated to whom it is rendered then you move on. If I cannot give something 100% I will not do it because my father taught me things done by halves are never done right. I will not take a job where I cannot give it my 100%,” he told Asempa FM.
According to him, the last time he spoke to President Akufo-Addo face-to-face was over a year ago.
Portions of his sack letter in 2018 read, “President Akufo-Addo has asked Mr. Boakye Agyarko to hand over his office to the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Mr. John Peter Amewu, who will act temporarily as Minister of Energy until a substantive appointment is made.
“The President wishes Mr. Boakye Agyarko well in his future endeavours”.
