Black Stars coach Akunnor explains why Thomas Partey should not join Arsenal
Ghana head coach Charles Kwabla Akonnor has advised Thomas Partey to stay at the Spanish side Athletico Madrid and not join English Premier League giants Arsenal.
According to the 46-year-old tactician, Partey should consider a move to a club capable of securing a Champion League spot every season or stay put at Atletico Madrid.
Thomas Partey, 27, who was a key member of Diego Simeone’s side that won the Europa Cup in 2018, has been linked with a move to the London based club but in an interview with Starr FM, coach Akunnor urged Partey to tun down the move and stay in Spain.
“I wouldn’t want Thomas Partey to move to Arsenal in England because with Athletico Madrid he will always play in the UEFA Champions League, It will be difficult for Arsenal to qualify for the Champions League,” Akonnor said.
Charles Kwabla Akonnor was captain of the Black Stars between 1999 to 2004 following Abedi Pele’s retirement and played most of his club career in Germany.
He was the head coach of Kumasi based Asante Kotoko SC before his appointment with the National team.
