Black Princesses Captain Evelyn Badu ruled out of World Cup opener

Ghana’s Black Princesses will miss the services of captain Evelyn Badu for their U – 20 World Cup opener against the USA today.

The Black Princesses will be playing their group opener against USA at the Estadio Alejandro Morera at 17:00 GMT.

Badu has been ruled out of the game after sustaining an ankle injury at the team’s training in Costa Rica ahead of the crucial encounter.

The Avaldnes midfielder has been pictured wearing an ankle boot on her right foot while she awaits for scan results to determine the severity of the injury.

It is feared that she could be ruled out for the remainder of the tournament which is happening in Costa Rica.

Badu’s injury is a big blow for the player who has seen a meteoric rise in women’s football circles in recent years due to her goalscoring prowess and creative spark.

She is the current CAF Interclub Player of the year as well as the CAF Young player of the year.

Ghana are paired in Group D with the United States, the Netherlands and Japan.
