A collaborative effort between the Blue Water Guard and the Akim Oda Police Command has led to the apprehension of two infamous illegal miners along the Birim River in the Birim Central Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The operation focused on illegal mining locations that posed significant risks to water bodies, agricultural lands, and the environment.
During the operation, three Changfang machines utilised for unlawful mining were located and destroyed.
The two individuals arrested have been transferred to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation and prosecution.
This follows a previous operation conducted by the Blue Water Guard, which resulted in the detention of five Chinese nationals engaged in illegal mining activities in the region.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Solomon Brako Kusi, in a statement praised all security agencies involved for executing the operation without any incidents.
He emphasised that the operation demonstrates the Municipal Assembly’s ongoing commitment to protecting the area’s natural resources.
