The families of two young people allegedly murdered in Sunyani have appealed to the Inspector General of Police(IGP) to intercede to swiftly apprehend the killers.
Francis Kwame Awuah, 25, and his girlfriend, Lydia Akosua, were found dead on Sunday, November 27, 2022, at Brosankro-Aprakukrom in the Sunyani West Municipality.
The body of Kwame was discovered in his room with multiple cutlass wounds on the head, while Lydia’s body was found on a cashew farm a few metres away from her boyfriend’s house.
Their bodies have since been deposited at the Sunyani Regional Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
The police have since launched an investigation into the matter, but no arrests have been made yet.
The bereaved families, however, say they are unhappy with how the police are handling the matter and are calling for the intervention of the IGP.
Mr Daniel Yeboah, the family spokesman, said the police had asked the families to pay money for a postmortem examination on the two bodies.
He said that the families could not afford to pay the said money.
“Since the incident happened, we have been going up and down for the release and burial of the bodies, but the police continue to demand the money,” he lamented in an interview with GNA.
Mr Yeboah added that the families are still reeling from the pain and shock of losing their relatives.
He said, “until the police release the bodies for burial, we can’t recover from the pain”.
Meanwhile, Mr Atta Kwasi Dognekoh Snr., the Assemblyman for Abronye Electoral Area, has appealed to the police to quicken the investigations to dissipate the fear and panic in the community.
“People can’t commit such heinous crimes and go unpunished, so we plead with the Police to be swift in the investigations to apprehend the perpetrators to face the full rigours of the law,” he said.
