The Ankobeahene of the Begoro Stool, Bafour Owiredu Agyarko Minta II, is expected to appear before the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council today, February 19, 2024.
Bafour Owiredu Agyarko Minta II has been summoned by the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council over his alleged endorsement of the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, during his tour of the Eastern Region.
The petitioners in a writ signed by by D. M. Ofori-Atta, the secretary of the traditional council, in the matter, are seeking an order of destoolment, a declaration nullifying the respondent’s conduct, a public recantation of the alleged comments, and the rendering of an unqualified apology to the people of Begoro.
They also want punitive customary sanctions to be meted out to the chief if found liable.
Nana Owiredu Agyarko Minta II has been directed to appear before Nananom accompanied by any witnesses and to pay a hearing fee of GH¢1,000.
Although the NDC in the region suspects that the summoning is a cover-up for a simmering chieftaincy dispute, they want the Council to conduct fair hearings.
