Bawumia’s margin of victory in NPP contest embarrassing – Sammy Gyamfi

The National Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has described Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s win as “embarrassing”.

According to the National Communications Officer, Dr. Bawumia’s win in the just ended NPP presidential race shows a vote of no confidence, especially in comparison to the number of votes received by his closest rival, Kennedy Agyapong.

In a Facebook post, Mr Gyamfi said that the Vice President’s performance falls short of then-candidate Nana Akufo-Addo.

He drew comparisons between Dr. Bawumia’s win and the 98.9% obtained by John Mahama in the 2023 NDC primary, as well as the 78.89% and 94.4% secured by then candidate Akufo-Addo in the 2010 and 2014 NPP primaries, respectively.

“This is the man a paltry 61% of NPP delegates have elected as their flagbearer for the 2024 election; a man bereft of credibility and vision; a man who has proven time and again to be a pathological liar; a comical character whose campaign to be President is based on his ethnicity and religion and not his competence.”

“Ghanaians currently find themselves in a total mess. Hopelessness, recklessness, bankruptcy, hardships, corruption and nepotism define the current state of our nation today. This mess is a product of bad leadership and nothing more,” he said in his post.

Certified results from the Electoral Commission (EC) available to The Ghana Report indicate that Dr. Bawumia obtained 118, 210 votes (61.47%),  Kennedy Agyapong comes in second with 71,996 votes.

The former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, comes in third with 1,459 votes followed by Francis Addai-Nimoh with 781 votes.

The total vote cast was 193,346, with 900 rejected votes.
