The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has disclosed that he will work with a maximum of 50 ministers and deputy ministers when elected as president of Ghana.

Speaking at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), to outline his vision for Ghana on Wednesday, February 7, the vice president said his government will prudently manage expenditures and reduce the fiscal burden on the government.

To do this, Dr Bawumia said he would enhance the role of the private sector and improve the nation’s systems and the way institutions function for greater efficiency.

“Additionally, an efficient system of governance will require even fewer ministers.

“Therefore, I will have no more than 50 ministers and deputy ministers,” he said.

Dr Bawumia added that his government will also reform the current tax regime, focusing on the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

“Many individuals and businesses find our tax system cumbersome and confusing, and many feel harassed by the GRA,” he emphasised.

He further stated that his bid for a digital and cashless Ghana will be significantly boosted if the Electronic Levy (E-Levy) is abolished.

“To move towards a cashless economy, however, we have to encourage the population to use electronic channels of payment. To accomplish this, there will be no taxes on digital payments under my administration. The e-levy will, therefore, be abolished,” he emphasised.
