Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has opened a strong early lead in the New Patriotic Party presidential primaries as provisional results continue to emerge from constituencies across the country.
At the NPP headquarters, Dr. Bawumia polled 308 votes to lead the field, ahead of Kennedy Agyapong, who secured 160 votes. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong polled seven votes, while Dr. Bryan Acheampong and Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum recorded three and two votes, respectively.
Dr. Bawumia also recorded decisive wins in several constituencies. In Adansi Asokwa, he polled 306 votes, far ahead of Kennedy Agyapong’s 114 and Dr. Bryan Acheampong’s 70.
He dominated voting in Yabaga Kubori with 379 votes, with all other aspirants recording zero at that centre.
Strong performances were again recorded in Effiduase Asokore where Dr. Bawumia secured 456 votes, and in Sekondi where he polled 392 votes.
In Bole Bamboi, he led with 375 votes, followed by Kennedy Agyapong on 142 and Dr Bryan Acheampong on 71.
He also topped results in Klottey Korley with 366 votes and Nkawkaw with 368 votes, ahead of Dr. Bryan Acheampong’s 312.
Some constituencies recorded tighter contests. In Okere, Dr. Bryan Acheampong narrowly led with 169 votes, followed closely by Kennedy Agyapong with 164 and Dr. Bawumia with 162.
In Ho Central, Dr. Bryan Acheampong also led with 233 votes, just ahead of Dr. Bawumia’s 227, while Kennedy Agyapong polled 142.
Meanwhile, Assin Central saw Kennedy Agyapong record a decisive win with 495 votes, while Dr. Bawumia polled 28.
In Akim Swedru, Dr. Bawumia again led with 177 votes, followed by Dr. Bryan Acheampong with 66 and Kennedy Agyapong with 45.
Partial results from Bimbilla showed Dr. Bryan Acheampong leading with 118 votes, followed by Kennedy Agyapong with 61, with results for other aspirants yet to be declared.
Counting and collation remain ongoing in several areas, with party officials urging calm as the NPP moves closer to declaring its flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
