Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has been chosen as the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) during the party’s presidential primary conducted on Saturday, January 31.
The former Vice President achieved a significant victory with 110,643 votes, which accounts for 56.48 percent, positioning him to guide the party in the upcoming general elections.
Kennedy Agyapong secured the second position with 46,554 votes, representing 23.76 percent, while Dr. Bryan Acheampong followed in third place with 36,303 votes, equating to 18.53 percent.
In fourth place was Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum with 1,999 votes, which is 1.02 percent, and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong came in fifth with 402 votes, representing 0.21 percent.
The primary election witnessed participation from over 211,000 delegates nationwide, who cast their votes at 333 polling centers across all 275 constituencies.
Voting took place under stringent security measures and was closely overseen by party officials to guarantee a transparent and credible process.
Initial results from the collation indicated a robust performance by Dr. Bawumia, demonstrating widespread support among party delegates.
Party leaders and observers praised the event as predominantly peaceful, with few incidents reported during the voting and counting phases.
After his victory, Dr. Bawumia expressed gratitude to the delegates for their support and committed to conducting a unifying and inclusive campaign in preparation for the 2028 general elections.
He urged all NPP members, including those who backed other candidates, to unite behind the party to achieve a national victory.
