President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is convinced Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh are the best to propel Ghana’s development to the next level.
Addressing a teeming crowd at the highly anticipated manifesto launch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Tarkoradi, the president stressed that both individuals have proven themselves capable leaders, worthy of continuing the NPP legacy.
“NAPO is an achiever. Apart from implementing the free Senior High School policy, he has been for the last three and a half years, our Energy Minister. Not only has he kept our lights on but has helped us through some difficult programmes, restructuring our energy debts and putting our energy sector on a much sounder footing than we came to meet it in 2017.
“These are the two people asking for the mandate of the Ghanaian people. I have no hesitation as the outgoing president, in saying that they will be worthy successors to the office of the President and the Vice President.
“So, I want all of you here, the leadership of our party, from polling station to the national leadership and members of the campaign committee to make an extra effort and sell this golden ticket to every nook and cranny of our country,” the president said amidst cheers.
In his remarks, the president underscored the importance of continuity in leadership, expressing confidence that these two stalwarts possess the vision and commitment necessary to drive Ghana’s progress.
President Akufo-Addo’s endorsement comes as the nation prepares for the crucial elections, positioning Dr Bawumia and NAPO as pivotal figures in the party’s future.
The NPP manifesto launch was held on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at the Ghana Secondary and Technical School (GSTS) in Takoradi, in the Western Region.
The event filled with enthusiastic supporters was to energise the party’s base as they gear up for the December polls.
Among other things, the NPP, through its 2024 flagbearer, has promised to invest in the growth of Ghanaian businesses, create millions of secure jobs for the youth, and ensure individual and collective prosperity.
Although the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration has created over 2.3 million jobs in the past 8 years, the NPP has pledged to train 1,000,000 youth in digital skills, create jobs through the Tax Amnesty Programme and create jobs for artisans (carpenters, masons, welders etc).
Additionally, the governing NPP has promised to complete all Agenda 111 hospitals, recruit more doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, with improved conditions of service and bring healthcare services to the doorstep of the ordinary Ghanaian.
With regards to tax, the NPP has announced that it will introduce a flat rate tax system in Ghana, as is being done in Estonia. According to Dr Bawumia, the flat rate tax will simplify the tax administration by giving taxpayers visibility into their tax obligations and thereby making it easier to file and pay taxes.
