‘Ban on noise-making ends today’
The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has announced that the ban on drumming and noise-making within the Accra metropolis ends today [Thursday, June 6, 2024].
The AMA, however, stressed that the ban on funeral rites is still in force until June 13, 2024.
The ban took effect on May 6, 2024, and applied to all residents, with the AMA urging strict compliance.
During this period, churches were instructed to conduct their activities exclusively within their premises and refrain from using musical instruments.
Additionally, the positioning of loudspeakers outside the premises of religious institutions and pubs was prohibited.
The guidelines also included a ban on funeral rites and related activities during the specified period.
Gilbert Nii Ankrah, the Head of Public Affairs at AMA, told the media on Wednesday, June 5, that even though the ban expires today, the road has not been cleared for funeral rites.

He advised families planning funeral rites and related events this weekend to postpone them to the following weekend.
Speaking about the ban period, Mr Ankrah stated that it was generally successful despite a few churches going against the directive.
“When you evaluate the enforcement, there was some level of adherence, although several churches and some mosques failed to adhere to the guidelines. But generally, there was some level of adherence, and so we want to use this opportunity to extend our gratitude to the people in the jurisdiction.
“However, I want to stress that although the ban on drumming and noise-making will end tomorrow, the ban on funeral rites and related activities has not been lifted. Families who wish to organise funeral rites can do so from June 14, 2024,” he said.
Meanwhile, he explained that the individuals and groups who flouted the directive will be sanctioned to serve as a deterrent to others.
