The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has stated that the House needs spiritual intervention to curb the rowdy behaviour of some legislators.
During a prayer meeting on Tuesday, February 11, with clergy members, Mr. Bagbin said he believes something in the Chamber may influence the MPs to act disorderly during proceedings.
Citing his interaction with the MPs in private, he expressed surprise over the contrast in the behaviour of the legislators in and out of the Chamber.
He, therefore, permitted the organisers of the prayer meeting to hold the next session on the floor of parliament.
“I thank the organisers and I grant them permission that the next prayer meeting should be held on the floor of Parliament. There may be something inside there that has to be exorcised. We will not take it for granted. We will get inside there and get it out. Where I sit, these great men and women come to me in private, the way they present themselves to me in private is different from what they do inside, and so I keep on thinking, ‘What is inside there?”.

“The great men and women of the gospel will testify that when they are in church, they behave differently, but in Parliament, it’s a whole different story. If that is the culture of politics, then we truly need God to descend and once again salvage us,” he said.
This comes after chaos erupted in the House on January 30, 2025, during the vetting of the president’s ministerial nominees.
What started as a disagreement over the vetting time quickly escalated into a violent brawl, resulting in significant damage to parliamentary property, including broken consoles, cables, and tables.
The incident raised concerns about the erosion of parliamentary decorum.
