Bagbin grateful to Mahama for nominating him as Speaker of Parliament
Mr Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has thanked President-elect John Dramani Mahama for nominating him as Speaker of the Ninth Parliament.
Mr Bagbin in a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency, said: “I extend my profound gratitude to the President-Elect, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, for the honour and trust he has, in consultation with the National Executives and the Parliamentary Leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), placed in me by the decision that I be nominated to be elected as the Speaker of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana.”
“This is both a profound privilege and an onerous responsibility. A responsibility that I do not take lightly. I am deeply humbled by His Excellency’s confidence in my ability to lead the august House as we begin a new chapter in our nation’s democratic journey.”
Mr Bagbin said throughout his years of service to Parliament and the people of Ghana, he had always remained loyal to Ghana and committed to the principles of justice, fairness, and respect for the rule of law.
He said that as Speaker of the Ninth Parliament, he would continue to uphold these values and ensure that the Ninth Parliament operates with the highest standards of integrity, transparency, accountability and inclusiveness.
He took the opportunity to assure the President-Elect Mahama, and the people of Ghana that he would, more than before, rededicate himself fully to the task ahead of the country, working to strengthen the nation’s democratic institutions and to ensure that Parliament remained an effective and responsive institution to the needs and hopes of the people.
