Baba Yara Sports Stadium gets facelift after CAF ban
The Baba Yara Sports Stadium, which was shut down due to poor pitch conditions and insufficient drainage, has undergone significant improvements since its closure.
According to Seth Panwum, Chairman of the National Sports Authority Board, the stadium is prepared for use by local clubs such as Asante Kotoko and others who have chosen this venue for their home games in the ongoing league.
The stadium’s closure followed the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) decision to revoke its license after hosting an Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Angola in September due to poor condition of the pitch and insufficient drainage.
Baba Yara is equally undergoing, let me say, re-turfing, you know, and it has come of age.
The grass is up to standard now.
With constant working after the game, we would go to Baba Yara as well to have a review of the work so far, then, yes, you know, so that we can attest whether it is ready, then we can allow Kumasi Asante Kotoko to return to the pitch. he disclosed in an interview.
Efforts are currently underway to ensure that Ghana’s stadiums meet international standards.
The Chairman of the NSA Board has announced that the country’s stadiums will now be exclusively used for sporting activities until the authority acquires the necessary pitch maintenance equipment.
